Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
I would like to express my appreciation for all the hard work, dedication, caring and concern to you teachers, every week of the year! I want to thank you and honor your work during Teacher Appreciation Week. You make such a difference in the lives of our students and I am grateful for your many contributions to our school and state. I have the privilege to work with you daily and your passion and dedication to educating others inspires me every single day! Whether you are teaching a baby, child, adolescent, or an adult, your role is important. Education is vital to the prosperity of our society. With my deepest gratitude I wish you well this week and every week!
At the last GCS Board Meeting, all of our Jr. BETA Club members along with our two Spelling Bee winners were recognized! We are so proud of these students and all they have accomplished this year! Keep up the hard work! We will be sure to see these faces again as they continue their journey through the Gadsden City School system!
Congratulations to Mrs. Teresa Mayne!
Mrs. Mayne was selected by our faculty and staff as WPES teacher of the year. She was recognized at the April Board Meeting. We are very proud for you Mrs. Mayne! You deserve this great honor!
Next Monday, Feb. 29th, begins a week full of Reading Fun! Our Spring Bookfair will kick off along with some special days incorporated that focus on celebrating Dr. Seuss and our love for reading!
The Bookfair will start Feb. 29th and end March 4th.
During this week, on Wednesday, March 2nd, we will all wear Red, White and Blue to celebrate our beloved Dr. Seuss's birthday. March 2nd is the official Read Across America Day! Due to our early release on Wednesday, we will plan our BIG Dr. Seuss day for Friday, March 4th. On this day, we encourage students to wear their favorite PJ's and Dr. Seuss hats. We will enjoy guest readers along with a fun day of reading for everyone. Bookfair information is coming home with your students today and tomorrow! Can't wait for an exciting week of reading!
Our Valentine's Luncheon will be held on Feb. 12th during 3rd grade lunch time. Please fill out your reservation forms and return with your payment no later than Feb. 5th. This is a special time for you to share with your child and enjoy a yummy lunch. We look forward to seeing you all soon!
Our class winner and runner up from each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class will be competing a week from today! Mark your calendars!
November is already full of fun activities for our school. Listed below is a more detailed outline of all that is going to be happening this month.
November 1st- Dec. 18th : Yearbook Sale
Our yearbooks are now on sale and will be until Dec. 18th for $20.00. You should be receiving an order envelope today. If you do not received one, you can find them at the office window. After Dec. 18th, the price goes up to $25.00. Save money and order soon!
November 1st - 10th : Canned Food Drive
Students are encouraged to bring in canned food items for our food drive.
November 1st - January 29th : Six Flags Six Hour Reading
We have begun our journey for six hours of reading in ALL classrooms. Students that read for six hours and turn in their reading log will receive a FREE ticket to Six Flags over Georgia. You can find the reading log on the Library Page along with more information. If you need any help with this, please let Mrs. Brewer know! She will be more than happy to help you get going with this. We would LOVE to have all our students earn a FREE ticket this year.
November 4th : Early Release
We will dismiss school at 12:30p.m. on Wednesday the 4th for our city's Veteran's Day Parade. Please make arrangements NOW for picking up your children. There will be NO GYM OR EDGE.
November 5th : Veteran's Day Sing-A-Long
Starting at 10:30a.m. in the auditorium, each grade level will perform for our Veterans. Please try and stop in and tell these Veteran's that you appreciate all they have done for our country.
November 6th : Nerd Day (PTO fundraiser)
Bring $.50 and dress as a nerd! This helps raise money for our PTO so that they can help do fund things for our students throughout the year!
November 11th : Veteran's Day
School will be CLOSED
November 13th : Reservations for 1st Grade Luncheon are Due!
You have from now until the 13th to turn in your reservation for lunch with your 1st grade student. Please don't wait and miss out on this opportunity! Having lunch with your student may not sound important, but it means the world to them when you show up!!!!
November 17th : School Wide Spelling Bee
Our students are practicing daily in their classrooms for this big event! Each classroom winner and runner up will be allowed to participate in this years school wide spelling bee. The winner and runner up for this Bee will go on to compete in the City Wide Spelling Bee.
November 20th : Anti-Bully Day and 1st Grade Luncheon
All students will be encouraged to sport their Alabama or Auburn gear and "Team Up Against Bullies". This will also be our 1st Grade Thanksgiving Luncheon.
We will come back to school on November 30th after our Thanksgiving Break! The following evening, December 1st, we will kick off our month of December with a Christmas Sing-A-Long at GCHS Auditorium. Last year was a blast, so I'm sure this year will be even better!
That's the short and sweet version of all that November has to hold! Let's get going and see how much fun we can make this busy month!

1. Costume Contest at 9:00a.m. in auditorium. You must get your entry forms and $1.00 fee turned in ASAP!
2. Kindergarten's Halloween Luncheon - If you have a Kindergarten child. Please don't miss this opportunity to enjoy lunch with them. Reservation forms have been sent home. Please send those back with payment ASAP!!!
3 - Trunk or Treat - Forms have been sent out asking for volunteers to decorate their cars and give out candy/treats. If you haven't turned yours in... please do so immediately. All the fun will begin at 1:00 in the side/gym parking lot.
Like I said earlier... this week is PACKED FULL! Please get excited and participate in all the fun! Its sure to be a week that we never forget.
